Master's thesis “Model-based systems engineering in the development of complex aviation systems”

In the field of innovation, we currently have a vacancy for a master's thesis on the topic: “Model-based systems engineering in the development of complex aviation systems.”

The Aerodata Group is represented worldwide in the field of special aviation. In addition to flight measurement systems, we also offer customized complete solutions for aircraft-based surveillance and reconnaissance with manned and unmanned systems. Our specially developed mission systems and remote sensing sensors play a crucial role in real-time situation awareness. We attach great importance to the sustainability of our systems and also offer professional maintenance, repair, and long-term services.

Model-based systems engineering is a method for developing complex systems and their architectures that is used particularly in aerospace and is increasingly becoming the standard. This engineering approach is to be applied to an unmanned aerial vehicle with an integrated mission system and will form the basis for further developments.

Your tasks:

  • Researching the state of the art, including available software solutions, and selecting an open-source application for implementing the system design.
  • Familiarization with the system architecture of Aerodata mission systems and their key components
  • Definition of high-level requirements as framework conditions for the system design and implementation of the system architecture of an unmanned aerial vehicle, including the essential subsystems and their interfaces
  • Implementation and tracing of requirements across system levels
  • Analysis of possible standard modules in terms of reusability and modular architecture approach
  • Evaluation of the overall concept and documentation of the results

Your profile:

  • Degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, systems engineering, electrical engineering, or a comparable subject
  • High motivation to learn new topics
  • Experience in systems engineering and with SysML desirable
  • Programming skills
  • Communication skills, initiative, and creativity
  • Good English skills
